From the Second Life. Documents of Forgotten Architectures is a film-research project that investigates buildings by émigrés architects who were forced to leave Europe during the national socialist regime. Documentary Architecture, a project based at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar applies an interdisciplinary historical method that combines film, architecture, photography archives, literature and digital technology to narrate the ‘biographies of buildings’ that were the products of migration. These building portraits ‘speak’ about the persecution and forced displacement of its authors and the complex reality of life in exile, but also investigate the building’s afterlife (Nachleben).
The exhibition of this project that will be presented during the Open House Tel Aviv events responds to an invitation by the Conservation Department of the Municipality of Tel Aviv- Yafo to celebrate the opening of the ‘White City Architectural Center’.
